Jacques Theurillat
Jacques was previously Serono’s Deputy CEO and Senior Executive Vice President, Strategic Corporate Development responsible for Serono’s global strategy and in-licensing initiatives. Jacques also served as Serono’s President of European and International Sales & Marketing and CFO. He is a Swiss barrister and holds Bachelor of Law degrees from both Madrid University and Geneva University. He also holds a Swiss Federal Diploma (Tax Expert) and has a Master’s degree in Finance.

Patrick Lee
Patrick has been an investor since 1999 as a general partner with Advent Venture Partners, where he led investments in healthcare companies. Before that, he held various executive management positions at Rhone-Poulenc Rorer and Rhone Poulenc Group, including global head of mergers and acquisitions, and helped create Aventis through the merger with Hoechst. He also worked at Baxter and Booz Allen Hamilton. Patrick holds an MBA from Stanford University, an MS from Johns Hopkins University and a BS in Biology from Vassar College.

Gabriella Camboni
Gabriella currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of EOS, a start-up company she co-founded in Milan devoted to translational research in oncology. She previously held various positions in the pharma industry, including Clinical Project Leader at Sandoz (subsequently Novartis), Head of Clinical Oncology at Boehringer Mannheim, Head of Development for Novuspharma (now Cell Therapeutics), and most recently, Head of Medical Affairs Europe for Novartis Oncology. Gabriella obtained an MD from the University of Milan and specialized in gastroenterology and clinical pharmacology.

Christian Chavy
Christian was Chief Operating Officer of Actelion from 2005 to 2008, managing a staff of 900 and sales of CHF 1.5 billion. Prior to that he held the post of Senior Vice President, Europe, Latin America, Middle East & Africa since 2000. Before moving to Actelion he was with Serono as Managing Director of the French subsidiary, latterly serving as Vice President, Head of Global Therapeutic Area Reproductive Health. He has also held several other positions in the pharma industry, including two years as Managing Director of Rhone-Poulenc Rorer in Canada. Christian holds a post-graduate degree in physics & chemistry from the Faculté des Sciences, a BA in Marketing Management from ESSEC and an MBA from the Institut de Contrôle de Gestion.

Emmanuel Floret
Emmanuel has been Divisional Controller at Merck Serono International prior to joining Ares. Previously he was CFO of Serono’s French affiliate. Emmanuel joined Serono in January 2001 in corporate finance, responsible for a variety of functions. Previously he held finance positions in a number of multinational companies in Switzerland, France and the UK. Emmanuel graduated in finance and business administration from ESDES – Business School of the Catholic University of Lyon.

Paola Ricci
Paola was previously Senior Executive Vice President Pharmaceutical Affairs at Merck Serono. She has 25 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in global R&D management, regulatory affairs, health policy and market access. Paola joined Serono initially in Rome, then moved to the US to manage external relations with biotechnology firms and investors. She subsequently returned to Geneva, with responsibility to organize and lead Serono’s Corporate R&D function. During her career Paola managed product development from preclinical through to regulatory approval, pricing and reimbursement for eight biotechnology products in several therapeutic areas, including infertility, growth and neurology.

Juan Vidal
Juan has 30 years of broad industry expertise in the pharmaceutical sector as well as in the medical technology field. He spent most of his career at Eli Lilly, assuming various executive positions, including General Manager for Spain and Portugal. He joined Guidant Corporation in 1994 to become the company’s Vice President, European Operations. Very active in the medtech field, he advises a large number of international medtech companies as an independent consultant. Juan graduated in economy and business administration from Madrid School of Economics and Iona College, New Rochelle (NY) and holds a PhD in History.

Robert Watson
Robert has been an investor in the life science industry since 2004, starting at Nomura International followed by Sofinnova Partners, one of Europe’s leading venture capital firms, and most recently at MDY Healthcare plc, a healthcare-focused listed investment company backed by 3i Group plc. His investment experience ranges from buyouts through to corporate spinouts and venture capital, in both the drug and medical device sectors. Robert has a Doctorate in Neurology, and a Masters in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford.
